Long-term care insurance

Nobody wants to think about the prospect of a lengthy illness or permanent disability. Unfortunately, for many retirees these become a reality as they reach the end of their lives, and such circumstances can drain the savings of the financially unprepared.

Long-term care insurance was developed for just these circumstances. It covers the services that most medical insurance — including Medicare — does not cover, such as:

  • Nursing home care
  • Assisted living services in a residential setting
  • In-home assistance with daily activities like bathing, eating and dressing
  • Outpatient nursing and therapy
  • Community programs like adult day care
